Privacy Policy
This covers the Dock website at getdock.io and the Dock apps for Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. It is written to be read rather than to be survived, so it is short. If something here is unclear, ask us and we will explain it and then fix the wording.
Dock is the service described at getdock.io. For anything to do with your data, including the requests described below, write to help@getdock.io and a person will answer.
The website
If you put your email address into the form on the front page, we store that address so we can tell you when there is something worth showing. If you write something in the optional box next to it, we store that too, because it is the most useful thing anyone gives us.
Alongside it we store the country your request came from, which page you were on, and where you arrived from if you followed a link or a campaign tag. We do not store your IP address.
We do not sell any of it, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not add you to anything you did not ask for.
Analytics
We use Umami to count visits and see which pages get read. It tells us how many people came and roughly from where. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, which is why this site has no cookie banner to click away. Your email address is never sent to it, and nothing we send it identifies you by name.
The apps
To use Dock you give us an email address. We sign you in with a one-time code sent to that address, so there is no password for either of us to lose.
The app then holds what you would expect a team chat to hold: your messages, the channels you are in, who you work with, files you attach, and which messages you have read. You need an account to have any of it, and it exists because the product does not work otherwise.
Dock keeps a copy of your own data on your own device so the app works with no network. That copy is removed when you sign out.
Notifications
If you turn on push notifications, we send the notification through Novu to Apple or Google so it can reach your device. That is the only way push works on a phone; Apple and Google necessarily handle the delivery.

Your messages are stored on infrastructure we run in the European Union. They are not passed through third-party services on their way to you.
How long we keep it
- Website signups. Until you ask us to remove you, or until we stop doing this, whichever comes first.
- Account and message data. For as long as your account exists. Delete the account and it goes, other than anything we are required to keep for accounting or legal reasons.
- Analytics. Retained by Umami under their own schedule. No cookies are set, so nothing is kept on your device at all.
What you can ask for
Under the GDPR you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask for it in a portable form, or object to a particular use of it. Write to help@getdock.io. We will not ask why, and we aim to answer within 30 days.
If we handle a request badly, you can complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live.
Why we are allowed to hold it
- Your consent, for the website signup. You typed your address in, and you can have it removed by asking.
- Performing a contract, for account and message data. Dock cannot deliver a message without storing it.
- Legitimate interests, for basic analytics and for keeping the service secure and working.
Children
Dock is a tool for workplaces and is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this changes in a way that matters, we will change the date at the top and, if you have an account, tell you. We will not quietly widen what we collect and leave you to notice.
